Damian
I’ve always been focused on my career, research, and academics.
The students don’t surprise me anymore.
But when a beautiful young woman writes a brilliant paper, I need to know more.
Allie is curvy, innocent, and makes me want to bend her over my desk.
Now I have to convince her she’s worth breaking rules for.
This is a Sweet, Steamy Short Story Romance. No Cliffhangers. This is the fourth in the Daddy Knows Better series, but it can also be read as a standalone. If you love short romances with steamy sex scenes and a sweet love story, then you’ll love this book.
Chapter One Look Inside
Chapter One Look Inside
“Oh, shit, it’s him.”
The chatter fades away with a few smothered giggles as I pass the cluster of undergraduate students in the hallway and pull out my keys to unlock my office door. This building is old, built in the 1920s, and the heavy door squeals on its hinges as I shove it open. I’m just about to push the door closed again and sit down when a hand stops me and someone pokes his head in.
“Sorry—are you Damian Wells?” The student is obviously excited to meet me, and his voice trembles with his nervousness.
“That’s me,” I reply as I pull my laptop out of my bag and set it on my desk. “Can I help you?”
“I loved your book is all,” he gushes. “I’ll see you around, Dr. Wells.”
“Damian is fine,” I mutter, but he disappears, rushing back to his friends to tell them that it’s really me.
I’m not used to being treated like a celebrity. It’s new for me, ever since my novel, Voltaire at Max Volume, hit it big. It’s not rock-star level recognition, but for a guy who expected to lead a pretty quiet life as a professor of French literature, it’s startling.
I pull up my email and see that the department chair has sent me a long list of messages. URGENT, the first one says in the subject line. I click on it and read it through.
Shit.
My phone buzzes on my desk and I grab for it when I see that it’s Mark Hanes, the department chair. I know exactly what this is about.
“Mark, what happened?” I say as soon as I pick up.
“Ellen wiped out while she was on a walk with her partner,” Mark says wearily. “She broke her hip in two places. She’ll be fine, but the surgery and rehab will take her out for the rest of the semester.”
“Jesus,” I say. Poor Ellen. She’s a legend here, and her students will be devastated to lose her. She stuck up for me when I applied for this job, and I owe her a lot. “What will you do about her classes?”
Mark hesitates. “She’s just got the one this semester, and I need you to take over,” he says apologetically. “You’re the only one with the subject matter expertise and availability.”
Ellen would do it for me in a heartbeat. “Yeah, of course,” I say. “When is it?”
“Well, I apologize for the short notice,” he starts.
I groan.
Forty-five minutes later, I’ve got some half-assed lecture notes pulled together, and I’m as ready as I can be for class as I walk through the doors at Ballinger Hall and climb the stairs to the second floor.
“Baby girl, why are you ignoring me?” I hear a male voice slur.
“Come to the house later,” another chimes in. “It’s beer pong night and you’re too pretty to stay home.”
I round the corner into an otherwise empty hallway and see three men, Greek letters visible on their hooded sweatshirts, clustered around a young woman. She holds a heavy leather bag full of books, and her expression telegraphs her irritation.
“No,” she says, voice frosty as she glares at them. They just crowd in closer. “I’m not interested.”
“Oh, you don’t mean that,” the third one chimes in. He reaches out and toys with a strand of her long, honey-blond hair.
“I absolutely do,” she says as she swats his hand away from her hair, but the man crowds in even closer.
That’s it, I decide.
